Lalomanu: Taufua or Litia Sini?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Hi there,

we can't quite decide whether we should stay at Taufua or Litia Sini. Any recommendations?
Both their webpages look nice, but LS got better reviews at TripAdvisor. On the other hand, Taufua is a bit cheaper and offers kayaks (does anyone know how much they are or are they free?)

We're planning on staying for 2 nights, would like to do some snorkelling, but mainly relax.

Are they quite close together actually?
Are there any 'differences' between the two?
Which one's bigger?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

They are next to each other on the same beach.
The main difference is probably just that Taufua is the much more popular, busier place, LS is the quieter one. They are about the same "big", or were when I was there.

Hi.
We were in Lalomanu earlier this year - stayed at Litia Sini but did the accommodation only option.
Litia Sini has the nicer accommodation (we had an enclosed fale right on the beach front - with our own little veranda). It was literally a few metres to the waterfront to some awesome snorkeling.
However we found the reception staff to be quite rude - it was the only downside to this place.
Spent the evening down at the Taufua fales for their fire dancing show which was awesome (and free), and paid 30 tala each to have an amazing buffet kind of style meal beforehand, including lobster at Taufua.
So all up, for the staff i'd recommend Taufua, but for the accommodation Litia Sini.
It doesn't make much difference either way since like Laszlo said, they're right next door on the same beach, and you can hire Taufua's kayaks when staying at either.

Enjoy your trip. it's a really awesome place!

thanks to both of you!

Good to hear you can still hire Taufua's kayaks eventhough you're staying at LS!

We'll have another look into it, but yes, LS does look a wee bit nicer!

I loved the verandah with the table and chairs at Litia Sini's. It was also great to be able to lock up my belongings. I thought it would be uncomfortable sleeping/sitting surrounded by the rain tarps hanging from 3 sides like at the Taufau fales.

The bad side: my fale (at Litia Sini) was not well cleaned, The food was only ok/fair rating. They served it buffet style, but it is one meal that you serve yourself not a buffet. One day for breakfast they served canned spaghetti which you are supposed to eat on toast (apparently an anglo-saxon delicacy.) They ran out of jam but did not replenish it. (I don't think they were happy with the amount of toast consumed.) One evening they just decided to close the bar/verandah area at 8pm because the staff wanted to go home.

The food looked better at Taufau. Back in 2007 they served it on big platters with everyone sitting together at one long table (not sit where you want at various 4 and 8 seat tables at Litia Sini's). Was able to watch their dance show even though was staying at LS (did buy a drink at the bar).

good snorkling but watch the rips at either end...dont get too near the reef.....someone died in the water whilst we were there recently......taufua has way too many fales spoiling a lovely beach and seems to have a holidaycamp type of atmostphere ......
