Manono Island and tsunami

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Does anyone know of the situation on Manono Island off Upolu's west coast. Apparently they were hit pretty hard by the tsunami. I have been trying to get through to the people that I know there, but without luck. Please let me know if you've got some info.

Today we just came back from Samoa (via a stop in Sydney and Singapore). Our last day in Samoa, Apia was on the 29th of September i.e. exactly the day when everything happened. We were lucky enough to still be on the delayed flight to Sydney the same day.

Imagine that one day before on the 28th we left Sunset View Beach Fale by boat from the owners getting back to Upolu. We stayed with them for three nights. This is horrible! We were lucky but they were not.

We are also now trying to use the phone numbers mentioned in the article to get in touch with them. Our main goal is to try to find out how to get first aid help i.e money to the owners of Sunset Beach Fale and maybe Taufua Beach Fales and the family on Namu'a island. In all the places we stayed and we know at least that Taufua and Sunset View have been flattened. Does anyone know the situation at Namu'a island?
Since we met these people we do want to make sure that the little help we can provide gets to them directly and therefore will not use any public accounts etc.

Should anyone have some ideas how to help, let us know!

Also please read the special Thorn Tree Thread on the Pacific desasters. One good source was just provided by wksamoa.

The people in Namua Island are alright at least physically. Wksamoa posted a message to different thread when I asked the same thing. They were able to climb uphill before the waves hit to the island.

If you want to help people in Lalomanu and of course others, check out Tina's blog --> http://tinadesuza.blogspot.com/
