Manono Island - Sunset View Beach Fales

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

I talked to Leota Tim and Sau Leiataua at SUNSET VIEW BEACH FALES on MANONO ISLAND yesterday.

Most aid attention is directed to the southern Upolu beaches (Lalomanu etc.). However other places like on Manono island that have been destroyed, too, are hardly being talked about.

At Sunset View Beach Fales the jetty plus the communal and kitchen area as well as the private house have been mostly destroyed. Only the three condominiums with bathroom up the hill have been left unharmed.

It is Leota's intention to reopen his place within the next three months from now. Should anyone want to talk to the family or help, please contact them using this phone number: ++685-7596240

I have been in touch with Leota at Sunset View Fales in the last couple of months. They are back and ready for business, after rebuilding the communal areas and the small fales - set back against the hill (half way up above the wave line). The big fale up high were untouched.

I went to Sunset View Fales back in Jan 08 and loved it. They are the kind of people you feel moved to do something for, so I created a website for them which I’ve just updated post-tsunami. Check it out at [www.samoasunsetview.com ]

It would be great to encourage business back to Manono for them. I had a fabulous time there, and after reading around on the net it seems lots of other people have loved it as much as me. It is perfect for the traveller who doesn't need every comfort, and wants true cultural interaction and experiencing life Samoa-style...
