Samoa: 1848 Princess Tui Inn destroyed by fireCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa
Today's (Dec 28) Samoa Observer (not online yet) reports that the well known 1848 Princess Tui Inn, a popular budget accommodation in Apia, has been completely destroyed by a fire on early morning Dec 27. There were no guests and nobody was hurt. No more information at this time.
Was it really built in 1848? Sad whatever but even sadder since there are so few things in the Pacific which are really old! Glad nobody was injured. | 1
No, not that old. Maybe 100 years or so, built around 1900. That's my guess, based on the style of the building. Much like the few other buildings left from the colonial time. Here is the news item from the Samoa Observer, explaining why 1848 is in the name. | 2
Even 100 years old is old- even here in Denver. So glad that nobody was injured. | 3
They ever find a cause? | 4
Maybe, but they did not publish it. | 5
Sounds like corruption to me....Arson maybe lol | 6
i used to work at the inn and i tell you i enjoyed my time there. i miss the place and everything about it especially seeing and meeting people from other countries. everyday we do something special for the guests, like showing them how to husk the coconut and prepare the coconut cream, show them how we do the Ava (Kava) Ceremony any why we do it or tell them stories about Samoa. sometimes we teach the guests how to pronounce and say easy Samoan words. | 7
my profile picture was taken on the steps of 1848 Princess Tui Inn | 8
Sorry, I have to ask why no one was there? That's not common. | 9
