Samoa for 2 weeks in July - do we need to book?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Looking to do a 2 week trip in July -outside of the school holidays. Do we need to book accommodation? We are looking at budget end and want to travel both main islands - but I hate being committed to accommodation in advance. The fales sound awesome and would suit our budget

No need to book.

I'd say probably close to 9 in 10 people I met when I went at the end of July/early August didn't book fales in advance and they had no trouble. I had booked everything in advance upon the advice that it was the busy time of year, but nowhere was ever full.

Which year did you go tch? Thanks - that's my instinct- the island seems to be very "managed" by travel agent's in whose best interests it is to make sure you book in advance!

No bookings required for Samoa, except for the time around the 50th Anniversary of Independence around June 1st 2012 and the Teuila Festival, first week of September. There might be church conferences in July, but participants do not go to beach fale resorts. Have a look at them anyway before you decide to stay.

2010, so maybe a bit quieter of a year due to the 2009 tsunami.

It's good to book an accomodation in advance for one night or two , as you have no idea about samoa then it's good to see someone at the airport to meet you and you feel comfortable rather that guessing what to do and it's hard if you arrive in the early morning...there is plenty of time to sort out the places you want to visit and you can still find a fale available anytime...

hope this helps
