Samoa Internet connection

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

Hi guys

Does anyone know about Broadband connection in Samoa ?

We will be there for an extended period of time next year and have a wireless laptop but was wondering about hooking up to the net.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Kylie

Hi Kylie,

We've just returned from Samoa and loved it. (again) I think you can get broadband in Apia, otherwise forget it.
Don't know how you'll go with a wireless connection.

Lots of places have internet connections, but most seem to be dial-up only.

Cheers,
Peter

I have heard that there is a place across the street from McDonalds restaurant that is the fastest internet in Samoa. This info is not recent though. Aloha

Yes, that is the CSL Internet Cafe and they offer a wireless broadband service called Lavaspot in an area around their premises around 0.5 km in diameter only. Very expensive though - about USD10 for one hour. There is no accomodation in that area as it is the central business district of Apia. so when you want to use your own laptop you will have to sit at McDonalds and surf the web, lol.

The only place to stay where you can get wireless (broadband?) Internet access is the new Le Alaimoana Hotel near Apia Park stadium. Some positive remarks about it on Tripadvisor, mentioning the wireless internet access (free for the hotel guests) as well. I did not try it myself though, so I cannot confirm that is has broadband speed (I doubt it a bit ...).

As far as i know the a few internet cafes in Apia's city claim the fastest connection. In my opinion the fastest internet is just next to Mc Donald on the same side of street (so that not opposite). Cost: 8 tala per hour, 4 tala per 1/2 hour. They have broadband connection wire to your notebook or so...
