Single girl looking for holiday ideas in PacificCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa
Hi there I'm pretty independent, and happy to spend a few days alone but I'm also pretty sociable and like to have a few beers with other travellers, etc. thoughts? thanks heaps in advance.
You can certainly travel alone in Samoa, though to be sure of finding the sort of company you want, you should gravitate towards the more popular beach spots like Lalomanu or Manase. If the issue of finding other travellers for company is of great importance to you, you might also consider Fiji, which does tend to get more (most) solo backpackers in the Pacific, and has many more busy beach spots than Samoa, which appeals more to those looking for relatively quiet spots. | 1
Fly over to American Samoa and visit Ofu island. There's a reasonable chance you'll be the only tourist on the island. Some links: http://www.interislandair.com/index_files/FlightSchedules.htm</a> | 2
I will be in Samoa from January 6 to 20 and am looking for people to travel with as well, I will get into anything inexpensive and active. I mostly do surfing, kayaking, swimming and hiking when I am at home in Australia. I figure I will start at a hostel in Apia and meet some people and maybe take some tours if I have too, and probably hit a surf camp sometime. If anyone is interested in sharing travel expenses hit me up: carltrocki@yahoo.com | 3
Hi I will be there on Feb 2nd to 10th. Don't stay in Apia too long. It is good to see the markets locals etc. but there is no beach or snorkelling. I would suggest catching a local bus to lalomanu beach where there are cheap fales, a beautiful beach and excellent snorkeling. Also if you are into surfing visit the village Siumu there is a cheap surf camp (fale accommodation too) they have a boat which takes you out the the back reef break regularly. Also a beautiful beach with great snorkeling (make sure you head out from the sinelei reef resort pier). There is also a beautiful waterfall nearby, just ask the locals directions. Also dont miss the amazing caves, forget their name, they are in university grounds, entry is a small donation. And even if you are not religious you cannot miss a visit to one of the churches on Sunday morning. Samoa is hard to travel around. The buses are very! crowded and out of Apia taxis are not that common. Tours are very expensive. Hence I would recommend hiring a car if possible. I will be travelling alone in Feb 09 so anyone else travelling at that time let me know and we might be able to share care and accom costs. Feel free to ask any other questions. | 4
