Can anyone confirm whether or not Survivor is being filmed in Samoa August/September this year?

Try to book a room at Aggie Greys Resort. We think SURVIVOR tends to book all the rooms for staff and crew when in Samoa.

1

Yes it is. And, as before, Aggie's Resort has thrown out all the people with prior bookings. Very good PR.

2

Thanks for your replies. While I speak for myself, I'm not sure Aggie's is the kind of experience we want to have in Samoa anyway, so no loss.

3

Oy MP - speak for yourself - I be a classy chick with classy needs - ;-p Whilst on that note - checking out one of the reviews on the Seaside Inn and it says it's closed (dated 24 April) - Anyone with any information?????

4

ooops just to clarify - it's the resort they're chucking people out of not the hotel??? or both

5

On the Seaside Inn, I just found that review too. Just emailed them to make a booking a couple of days ago as well. Any info on other budget backpacker options right in Apia would be appreciated, just need something cheap there for the night I fly in.

Mumsie been doing some research and two other options are:

Tripadvisor is really positive about this one

It is Aggie's Resort only that apparently is blocked. However there is no official confirmation yet that all this is due to Survivor (even though it very much looks like).

Aggie's Hotel in town is not affected; might be a bit more booked though during that time due to resort bookings being shifted there.

Backpacker places of any kind are certainly too basic for survivors. So no problems with booking there. Eden's Edge is another nice place, right in town. Tatiana Motel at Tanugamanono is quite popular too.. Millenia Hotel and Hotel Elisa in Sogi have basic accomodation now, in addition to their regular hotel rooms. Just to name a few.

8

Thanks WK Samoa - so the survivors can eat cockroaches but not sleep with them

People booked at Aggie's Resort reported on Trip Advisor that they were told by the Resort that the cancellation was due to Survivor. One poster actually posted the content of the letter. I can't find it but will post it here if I have any success after a further look.

Interesting that there seems to be a news blackout just like last time when it was government imposed. The only news reference I've found so far is this article.

This is the link to the letter sent to people cancelling their booking at Aggie's Resort. Something I didn't notice before - it doesn't actually mention Survivor - only a large production company. But everyone knows who it is.

So I guess there is an attempt at a news blackout. Last year Samoa Online was very brave in ignoring the threats but this year the site is not active and looking for someone to run it.

11

Interesting - lukcy we won't be wanting to stay there - much prefer a fale on the beach ;-p

12

Thanks for the link I will be writing to aggie greys hotel saying that we were considering staying there but given the behaviour of their sister resort we will not be booking at all with them and will be recommending that our friends do the same (might drop in that I'm the travel arranger for our company)
Oy MP reckon you can do the same???

13

You should have experienced the real Aggies back in the mid to late 1960's.
$25.00 a night for two, 3 meals a day, morning and afternoon tea. And all the great tasting bananas you wanted.

14

Yes, I would have liked to visit Aggie's in town as it used to be.

Last year when there was all the fuss about Survivor, there was a newspaper article by someone who said that Aggie would turn in her grave at the way her descendants were treating guests (ie cancelling bookings for holidays and weddings).

15

Now Pago and Agingaquarian that would be love to visit. but I think other little outfits will just do fine - I like the look of Samoan OUtriggers and Seaside (as long has it hasn't shut)

16

We're a little surprised SURVIVOR announced the next installment as The South Pacific and not Samoa?

17

Palau became Survivor Micronesia the second time the location was used. Nicaragua became Redemption Island on the second pass. Panama had three different names. I think they want to give the impression that they are going to different locations each time.

18

Yes indeedy - why let the truth get in the way of a good fantasy location - regardless I am getting excited and will enjoy schepping around swimming diving and drinking - not necessarily in that order

19

And only 8 weeks to go ... and counting!

20

OK MP we are now looking at just over 2 weeks meahahahaaha

21

And insurance is done. Togs, fins and goggles and off we go.

22

Just got back from Samoa yesterday and wanted to say thanks for the tip on Pasefika Inn at the beginning of this thread - stayed there my first night and it was cheap, clean and had a dorm and bathroom to myself. Then I escaped over to Savai'i and Manono. Met a couple of girls who were walking around the coast from Virgin Cove resort and were stopped by a security guard as they were in the shot so I guess that's where Survivor's being filmed.

23

Thanks for the update mumsie.

24

Mumsie that's good to know as we will be staying there the first few nights

Lou

25

I think it's good to know where the filming's going on - I don't want our holiday ruined because we're nodded off by some security guard. Time's money ....

26

yes Moneypenny time is money when you are relaxing - maybe I could do a PMT hissy fit.....

27

I'd be keen to have a quiet one with Jeff Probst though, he's a bit of a dish.

28

Nah you know I'm strictly a Phil Keoghan gal -
