Heading to Samoa for 10 days in Aug/sept, finding it hard to plan my trip....initial thoughts are to head straight to Savai and stay at Luisa's chalet and book a tour with greenturtle tours, and then head back to Apia stay at seaside inn and do a tour with samoa on foot to Lake Lamoto as well as visiting the Robert Louis Steveson Museum and the Palolo Deep Marine reserve. With thanks, Anna
For Palolo Deep Marine reserve, I would recommend having your own mask and snorkel, as the rental ones were in very poor shape. On Savai, there are crators on the northside of the island that you can hike to. There was an entrance fee of a few tala, and the person who took the fee led us to the crators. You would need a rental car to get there. It has been a while, but I remember that there was a sea turtle rescue on the main island where you could pay a fee to snorkel/swim with them. The money went towards rescuing more sea turtles from fisherman. | 1
Just back fro 3 weeks Samoa, stayed at Lusia"s chalets, try to get one over the water..cheaper and better..dont miss the fresh water pool! Also recommend Vacation at Manase..big ferry serviced on tues..have fun. | 2
I can definitely recommend Lusia's - good pick. The Tafua crater is within hiking distance and it's rather rainforest-ish. Are greenturtle back in business? It said somewhere here on Thorntree that they had closed down and when I was on Savaii last year there was no such thing as the Green Turtle Bus that I had fancied... | 3
No more Green Turtle and nothing similar either. But there is always something that can be arranged by Lusia's or any other resort you stay in. In Savaii the blowholes are a must. But in Upolu you will have problems to get to Lake Lanotoo. | 4
