working in samoa?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Samoa

hey all, just thinking of heading to samoa around june/july of next year. i will hopefully be after many an adventure in india and so will need to find myself some work. im 22, from ireland, and will have a degree in social science and a bit of social work experience behind me, i have spent most of my life to date working in bars and restaraunts. i was just wondering if anyone might have any information on how likely it might be to get work in samoa for a few months (maybe 6) and how the pay in such jobs will allow me to survive there. any help would be much appreciated. thanks a million

Samoa is one of the poorest countries in the region, so unless you hit it lucky with a foreign organization, you are unlikely to find any decent, paid work there. And you probably wouldn't be allowed to either work or even just stay 6 months anyway.

Consider nearby New Zealand or Australia.

There's a couple of palagi's (foreigners) who work at the resorts for short periods of time. Coconuts Beach Resort seems to do it regularly - accommodation is provided - not too sure how great the wages are though.
