14 days in the Solomons

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hello

Thank you to all who have posted and replied previously, its so hard to find info about the solomons so the posts here are invaluable!

I am travelling to the solomons next June to get married and for a honeymoon. This will be my 2nd time in the solomons and we are interested in diving, fishing, snorkelling and local culture.
I am a bit stuck on the last bit of the itinerary and wondering if anyone can help.
This is the proposed itinerary:

Fly Brisbane to Honiara
5th July

2 nights Honiara-with day trip to Savo

Fly Honiara to Marau Sound
7th July

5 nights Tavanipupu resort , wedding

Fly Marau Sound to Honiara
10th July

1 night Honiara

Fly Honiara to Seghe (via Suavanao)and boat to Paeva
11th July

3/4 nights Lagoon Haus, near Paeva Village, Gatakote Island

14/15th to 20th July ????

Honiara to Perth
21st July

I was considering Munda for some diving, staying at Zipolo Habu resort and/ or Matakuri lodge in Morovo lagoon. However I wonder if they may be fairly similar to what we will already seen? Would love to try Malaita or somewhere outside the Solomons but this looks like would involve a trip back to Honiara so would be pushed for time in the last few days. I have been to Tetepare about 10 years ago so would probably like to see somewhere new, but this could be an option?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Juliet

Hi there,

We would highly recommend traveling on board a catamaran called Chemistry with a couple, Gavin and Luciana. We were originally going to stay for 3 nights but ended up staying for 8 nights (in December 2016), once establishing that the waters were calm (one of us wouldn't get sea sick) and we saw how we could experience everything we wanted by way of sailing around the Western Province. We did plenty of snorkeling, seeing amazing reef life and two sunken WW2 planes, Japanese artillery guns nestled in the jungle, had a number of up close dolphin sightings, and visited some stunning villages where the residents were more than happy to show us around. Fishing is definitely on offer and I think surfing (maybe depending on where they are the time). They picked us up from Munda then dropped us off in Seghe at the end. Great company and we'd say restaurant quality food (plus an awesome dog!). They were contactable via the Paradise Cruises Facebook page for us. Gavin has extensive knowledge of the Solomons so he could most likely help you with ideas and seeing something different!

Hope this helps!

Katherine and Joona.
