Alternative to Solomon Airlines for Honiara-Seghe?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands
Hi everyone, My girlfriend and I have started our trip around some Pacific islands (Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Solomon Islands) and will be heading to the Solomon Islands in June. We were trying to find a way to go from Honiara to Seghe, and since we have already booked the accommodation in both places we were trying to sort out the transfers as we were told by the operator at Seghe that it would be easy. However, when trying to find a flight from Honiara to Seghe, we come to a staggeringly expensive $600AUD for a 45 minute flight. We looked into alternatives, but apparently Solomon Airlines is the only one flying there (hence the steep price, I guess). Could anyone suggest a way to go from Honiara to Seghe? Thank you very much for your help!
Yes Solomon Airlines is the only flight option. However, I just checked their website and they quote the one way fare to Seghe as $159AUD. Did you try to book online? | 1
Thanks, OzzieGiraffe. I wasn't very explicit. In fact the $600AUD was for both of us, return fare, so whereabouts the same you found. Still this is more than we paid for to go from Melbourne to Nuku'alofa. We'll probably have to cancel our booking for Sehge and find somewhere else we can get to at a not very extortionate price :) | 2
Western Province is a fair distance from Honiara, by Solomon standards. Depending on the level of accommodation ou are looking for, Central Islands Province (Gela and Savo, including Maravagi resort) might work for you, as they can be accessed quickly by boat from Honiara. It is also worth remembering that Solomon Islands is the third biggest Pacific countr, after PNG and Fiji, and much more spread out than the main islands of Fiji. These countries are all much bigger than Polynesian countries like Tonga. | 3
