Boat from Munda to Gatakoa or Seghe

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Just wondering how long it would take and how much it would cost to hire a boat to go from either Munda To Gatakoa or Munda to Seghe?
Thanks

You might find it considerably cheaper to use one of the regular ferries on its way to or from Honiara, unless your time is limited. In rural areas, petrol was $7 - $10 AUD a year ago. Not sure of distances in Western Province, but you would need to add boat and driver hire to the cost of the petrol.

You most probably likely to be in the Solomons by now. But, Ozzie's right, catch the ferry, more cheaper. Most of the ferries come in on Sunday or Monday. If you are going to hire, you have to also provide petrol as well, which is SBD15.00 to SBD18.00 per litre. Hiring an engine is usually the size of the OBM (OutBoard Engine) and that should be per day. But if you have money to spend, Agnes Munda rest Lodge has a big engine to hire out, Yamaha 115Hp (2-Stroke Engine) or 100Hp (4-Stroke Engine).
