Book exchange in HoniaraCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands
I will be in Honiara for a few days and I want to know if anyone knows of a good book exchange or used bookshop there. I recall last time I went that there was a shop selling some used books in that central shopping mall type of place. Thanks.
I don't know about a book exchange in Honiara, but there was a second hand book store, lower level, in the XJ6 store near the Yacht Club. They price by the kilo, and 3 largish paperbacks came to about a kilo. I also don't know if the shop is still there, but it was in 2002. I think I bought 5 or 6 kilos of books during my 4-month stay there that year. I also haven't been back for a while so I don't know if there are any second-hand bookshops in Panatina Plaza or the NPF Plaza. | 1
Thanks watsoff. Yes I would welcome used bookshops as well. I don't think I found the shop you refer to last time I was there, which was around 2009. I will be there starting tomorrow. | 2
Good luck with the books. And give Honiara a hug from me :-)) | 3
I did some more searches and found a blog that said the Lei Clothing, a used clothing shop, also sold used books. I duly went and there is a small section at the back with used books. The prices are very reasonable at S$10/book. I found one I wanted. It is located on the main drag, just to the east of the road to the Yacht Club. I hugged Honiara for you. Oh man is she hot... | 4
LOL, thanks for the virtual hug for Honiara. She is getting hotter and hotter and more humid than ever!! I haven't been back since 2002, but every time I go there it feels hotter than the time before. Sounds like the Lei Clothing shop might be a new name for the old XJ6, at least as far as the location goes. The main floor of XJ6 was all used clothing, the books were downstairs. Glad you found something, though. Enjoy your stay in Solomons ... is this a holiday, work, volunteering??? | 5
