Camping in the Solomon Islands

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hello guys

I have a question
Me and other 3 friends of mine, we want to take our tents, and to make a camping trip in the Solomon Islands. I want to ask if camping is allowed in the Solomon islands? If is not, what permissions I should optain from the government or the local people?
Where are the perfect places for camping?
Please give me any advise?
Thanks

Well, there is no ban on it as such, but remember that all land is owned by locals so you should always seek their permission!
And then staying in their village might just be preferable - and safer.
I wouldn't feel like leaving stuff in a tent while exploring in the Solomons.

We were sleeping on the yacht anywhere we just anchored, usually just by local villages. And it was always safe and friendly. But when we were leaving the yacht we tried to hire one of local friends to stay onboard. I wouldn't leave the tent alone.

I'd recommend staying in a village, for convenience, safety and the experience. Communities will always find room for you in someone's house, and your hosts will watch out for you much more than if you go it alone and stay in a tent, because they will consider themselves responsible for you. Less stuff to carry, too, and village houses are much cooler and more comfortable than stuffy tents!
