Diving at Tavanipupu?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hi,

Has anyone been scuba diving at Tavanipupu? I know they offer it but they don't seem too say much about it on their website. We have all our own gear but just wondered if it was worth heading too with the focus of doing some nice dives in the Solomon islands but also staying somewhere nice

Thanks

Hey hey ...

yes I have dived there and YES you should too.

You are right, that the website doesn´t say much about diving. Thats because none of the people that run the resort so far are diving at all. But that just changed!

I just spend the last week there checking things out and sorting through all the gear. At the moment all the gear including the compressor and tanks are being serviced. Everything should be back on the Island and running by next week. Arround the 15th of September.

If you have and bring your own dive gear even better.
But rest assure that everything is there and boats are ready to take you out for an adventure.

The diving is completely undiscovered so far.
But what I have seen so far made me move right away. Just snorkeling we found a spot with Giant Manta Rays coming to the surface. One with Dugongs chilling in a shallow bay with sea grass. We have sharks and deep water but also shallow and calm bays with colourfull reefs. It is just amazing how untouched this hole area is.

On my website www.solomons-diving.com you will find all the infos you seek. Or send me an email and we can sort out how you get here and so on.
The website from the resort itself www.tavanipupu.com will soon show more information on diving there as well.

Over the next week we will id and map some fixed dive sites and I will report about them on the website as well.
But if you come sooon you might be able to find your own spot and name it too.

Let me know what you think and have a look through the online Marine Life Guide on the website as well. All you see there can be found directly at the house reef.

Cheers,
Phil
