Domestic Flights

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Is there any discount on Solomon Airlines' domestic flights if you're flying internationally into Honiara with Solomon Airlines? I noticed that Sydney - Honiara returned flights are only AUD619 but Honiara - Munda returned is AUD 5xx which seems quite steep.

Thanks.

Not that I've ever been able to find. And there is a rumour going around that Solomon Airlines might be going out of business, although I can't find anything about that via Google.

It is relatively expensive to fly around Solo. As for the Honiara-Munda leg, make sure you are not paying for a Honiara-Munda-Gizo trip, which is more expensive as Gizo is further away - but Munda is the first stop. When I re-visited Munda in 2002, Solomon Airlines was charging flights to Munda as if they were flights to Gizo, which didn't make sense at all, although I was able to get a cheaper Honiara-Munda flight, but on another date.

I've just messaged a friend, returning to Oz from Honiara today, if she knows of any discounted domestic flights, as well as if she knows anything about the supposed closing down of SA. Will let you know if I find out anything, or she might post the answer here ...

My friend who just returned to Oz says she's never heard of discounted domestic flights with Solomon Airlines.

Thank you so much watsoff. I will be heading my way there in October so I probably shouldn't buy the tickets on Solomon Airlines yet in case it goes out of business? I saw a nice fare for Bangkok to Sydney returned for only AUD480 and the promotion ends at the end of this month so I have to plan early.

Don't forget that going out of business is only a rumour at this point, so best to keep checking. Have a great trip wherever go!
