Honiara update.

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

I returned from a couple of days in Honiara yesterday. I went primarily to help out friends after the floods. The good news is, Honiara is up and running pretty normally as far as visitors are concerned. The main problem is the traffic jam, caused by the loss of the second Chinatown bridge. Anyone on a morning flight would need to head to the airport about half an hour earlier than usual. Some enterprising taxi drivers are using short cuts to beat the traffic, but there is no way to avoid the bridge unless you have a boat.
For anyone wanting to travel to Auki, Malaita, the booking offices for the 3 main ships (360 Discovery, Express Pelican and Datstar) are now all on the upper level of the Komi Fera building on Commonwealth street, on the same side, and a few doors down from the ANZ bank and Lime Lounge.
