How much time in Solomon?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hi fellows!

We are a couple who love beaches and diving, both with tubes and snorkeling.
At the end of this year we are departing to spend 5 days in Fiji, and then departing to Solomon Islands.
We already have the tickets to go, but don't know how many days would be enough for spend there.
We have flexibility.
Any opinions, please?
Thank you all!

Solomon Islands is one of the biggest of the island countries, with many diverse islands. With your interests, you would probably enjoy the Western Province, or somewhere like Maravagi, much closer to the capital, Honiara. There are places with much less infrastructure, but more cultural interest, too.
You will need a minimum of a week, preferably longer.

How long?, as much as possible, the country is amazing and huge!, a lot of different islands and places to visit. But i thing that is a good idea to be focused in one area (if you haven´t a lot of weeks).
I strongly recommend you to go to the Western Province, your will have a lot of posibilities around, like island hopping between beaches and WWII remains, excelent diving and snorkeling (reefs, Wrecks, pinnacles....) and nice trekkings (check out Kolombangara Island).
Anyway if you want more information about accomodations, tours or anything you can check this Website, was really helpful for me:

Enjoy it

The above website is commercial and Western Province focussed, and has little information about the rest of the country.
The Visitors Bureau website is more comprehensive, and the Exploring Solomons website gives more adventurous options.

Agree with above posts.

Also would like to recommend Tetepare. The largest uninhabited island in the South Pacific. It has a basic eco-resort and arranges transport from Munda. The snorkelling is the best I have experienced. Dugongs, turtles, sharks, barracudas, massive humphead parrotfish and plenty more. Lots of animals on land as well and the rangers might take you turtle-tagging.

Morovo lagoon is also supposed to be excellent for snorkelling and diving. Did´nt have time to go, as planes and boats were working on laxed schedules, but had two wonderful weeks in the Solomons.
