marovo weather

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hi there,

I wondering how much rain is about in late December or early Jan?

We are looking at going to Uepi, and don't want the God of Nasty Weather to get us like he did on our last trip to Fiji. (One week of solid heavy rain, stopping on the day we left. Crying every morning didn't help.)

Any thoughts?

Thanks everyone (or anyone)!

Hi Nornor

Uepi is great all of the time - we've been over Xmas/new year and into January quite a few times & love it (and are returning in mid January next year!)

Generally - clear and blue skies in the mornings with clouds coming up in the afternoon with increaed humidity, sometimes a shower/storm in the afternoon or early evening and then it cools down a bit.

If you're diving - we were there last year Nov/Dec and it was brilliant - the fishlife was spectacular and there were a lot of harlequin ghost pipefish around. The water was warm and viz was great.

after more than a dozen trips to Uepi, at all times of year, we have no problems going at any time.

Of course, Xmas time is generally hotter than mid year, but otherwise, there's little difference.

Oh yes, hammerheads are supposedly seen more in the cooler months, but we saw one right at the dive shop jetty, on Xmas day a few years ago. What a great pressie!!!!

feel free to PM me for any more info

cheers

Hi, Nornor,
Even though it is technically wet season around Christmas, as the Solomons are a double island chain, you will find that it can be wet on one side of an island and dry on the other, at most times through the year. Most rain doesn't last more than a few hours, though it is very heavy while it lasts.
If it was wet for a few days with no sign of lifting, moving to somewhere on the opposite side of the island would probably help, or to a different island. There is a lot more to see, in both Solomon Islands and Fiji, than one resort.
