Money in Solomons

I live in Australia and will visit Solomons in a few weeks. Can any one help with currency. Where is the best place to change money? Will I find ANZ ATM machines in Honiara? Can I use American or Australian dollars? Do most places have credit card facilities? Any ideas?

You'll need Solomon Dollars - exchange some before you go, and try either Westpac or ANZ to change the rest when you get there. The larger hotels also do money exchange, but I'm not sure where the best rates are.

ANZ, Westpac and Bank of South Pacific all have ATM's in town (try to avoid using the ATMs at night though). Government payday every fortnight means that ATMs run out of money quickly, so ask at your hotel just to be sure.

The larger places take credit cards, and if you need you can always use your card at the ATM's to get some money out (all the major networks, such as cirrus etc.)

JT...easy enough to just change aussie $$ into SBD when you get there....as above, there are ANZ and Westpac banks for money change and ATMs, plus a couple other banks, in Honiara.
There is also a small exchange booth at the airport where you can change a small amount when you first arrive.

Hard to get Solomon dollars in Australia. Forget American. Less helpful than Australian. ATMs accept Mastercard or Visa, but NOT ANZ bank cards which are not Mastercard or Visa. There is an ATM in Departures at the airport.
