Air Niugini to service Fiji via Honiara SOLOMON Islanders will have another alternative to travel to Fiji following Air Niugini’s decision to introduce its new Nadi service via Honiara. Air Niugini has announced the introduction of its service to Fiji which will commence on March 23. In announcing the new service, Air Niugini chairman, Jim Tjoeng and chief executive officer, Wasantha Kumarasiri said the PNG national flag carrier has achieved yet another milestone with its initiative to expand Air Niugini’s network and access to other markets. In a statement, Mr Kumarasiri said the flights to Nadi will operate via Honiara in both directions on a twice weekly basis on Friday and Sunday from Port Moresby to Nadi and returning on Saturday and Monday. The statement said Air Niugini would operate a two class service on its 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft including eight business class seats. It said the flight schedule provides great opportunities for tourism to Papua New Guinea and business and leisure travel to Fiji as well as alternative and convenient options for travel via Nadi to the United States, New Zealand and other Pacific Island destinations. It said the flights would also provide excellent connections to and from Air Niugini’s Singapore and Tokyo flights in both directions, thus enhancing travel options for Pacific Islands’ residents. “An added convenience for residents of Papua New Guinea and Fiji travelling to either country is that they are able to have their visitor’s visa processed on arrival,” it said. Mr Kumarasiri said the recent appointment of Discount Flight Centre as the airline’s General Sales Agent in Fiji further demonstrates the airline’s commitment to ensuring online services to the travelling public. Mr Tjoeng and Mr Kumarasiri acknowledged the government authorities in Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Solomon Islands and the Air Niugini staff. Solomon Airlines has a weekly flight to Fiji likewise Air Pacific.
