Ropiko Eco Lodge, Morovo Lagoon

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

We have just returned back to Honiara after making a wonderful accomodation discovery in Morovo Lagoon.

We were met at GAROKAE airfield on NGGATOKAE ISLAND, Morovo Lagoon and taken by small boat 10 mins over calm sea waters to ROPIKO ECO LODGE for a four day stay.
The lodge is owned and run by a wonderfully friendly couple;- Jenna and husband Barry along with thier family.
The grounds are set behind a sandy point which is opposite a small unihabited island that is surrounded by colourful corals and riddled with reef fish .
The small lodge house has two double rooms at present , with a new two room building being built to offer 4 double rooms . Both are set just inches from the lapping waves, set in a garden of swaying palms which are growing amongst literally , a "carpet" of wild orchids.
The rooms are spacious , pleasant, and immaculate, the beds are comfy and clean with folded fluffy towels. Orchids arrangements set in clam shells decorate everywhere, including the very tidy and modern toilets and shower building (flush wc's).
Its an eco lodge that is raising its standards at a fast rate now the past problems in the Solomons are over to meet travellers expectations . The standards are high from hard work, dedication and all those personal finishing touches that make you feel like you have lived there at some earlier point in your life, as one instantly feels so at home.
The three meals a day all cooked by Barry who was a Hotel Chef earlier in his life and Jenna and served in their own house in the dining room overlooking the sea.
The food is always a banquet of local organic foods creatively put together that guarantees you will find it very hard to resisit second helpings of the tempting fare.
For divers , Lisa of;- lisa@solomondiveadventures.com is only 5 mins away and will collect/drop off. Fishing folk are easily catered for, as are snorkellers.
For WW2 enthusiasts, there is even a Japanese aircraft relic that crashed next to the house...and it too is covered in wild orchids!
The location, the accomodation is utterly delightful and your hosts just make a stay at this lodge a truly personal, romantic stay.
We cant wait to get back there in the next few months when we need another escape from "down town Honiara".
Barry and Jenna always make sure that nothing is too much trouble or any concern for you .
Give us ROPIKO LODGE rather than a famous brand hotel any day. This place is wonderful, enchanting and personal.

Do you have any contact details? This is one I have never heard of.

1

I just checked the Visitors Bureau website - it is one of a number of "eco lodges" that seem to have sprung up recently in the Marovo Lagoon.

2

It's an advertisement (though they forgot the contact details).

Interesting suggestion. When I checked the Visit Solomons website, there were several locally-run placces which seemed similar. This one appears to be owned by expats.
If anyone is interested in staying at an Eco-resort, I would recommend patronising the locals.
