short term rent in honiaraCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands
Hi - I am travelling to Honiara at the end of the month for 6 weeks and trying to find a room (one-room apartment, homestay etc) to rent for the whole time. Any suggestions.... I've stayed in one of the rest houses before and that was good for a few days but wondering if there's anything else available that's not too pricey...
Hi Joy, St Agnes (Mothers Union) Transit House has 2 studio apartments with kitchenettes on the ground floor, that could be available for you at a reasonable rent. It is very centrally located, and run by local women. | 1
look at http://www.solomonislands-hotels.travel for a section of accomodation places | 2
Yeah I stayed in Mothers Union last month - great place - but they don't have much availability the time I am there - should've got onto it earlier as most places don't have availablity the whole 6 weeks so thought I'd see if there was anything like apartments for short term rent - but may just have to book a few rest houses and move a bit - united church rest house has a room for the majority of the time ...a friend mentioned SIM and YWCA transit houses - but can't find them online - do u know anything about them? Thanks tumas | 3
YWCA generally provides accommodation for local single working women. The don't usuall have casual accommodation for outsiders. Haven't heard of SIM (if you are referring to a mission I know) having any presence in Honiara at all. The SSEC (South Seas Evangelical Church) has a rest house in the same general area as Mothers Union. | 4
Thanks so much for your replies! I think I've managed to cover the 6 weeks between raintree, mothers union and united church - going to be a bit pricey overall but doesnt seem there are any other options. On another note - have you been to Serah Keis Lagoon Hideaway - would love to take a weekend break and that looks nice. Or any other recommendations for a few days away at a reasonable price not too far from Honiara? Thanks so much again! :) | 5
hey, before you book all that, call Pasifiki services and talk to eve and ask her to get you in touch with Steph and see if she needs someone to take her spare room again. that could work. they would also know any others, it will be bloody expensive otherwise and annoying. this place was up skyline way but they might know of others. anyway, eve will sort you out even if it is just to pass an email address. she will want to know why you are coming. | 6
Usually I stay at SSEC transit on top of Vavaya ridge (centrally located, overlooking Honiara city center). Caretaker lady was: Elisabeth mobile: 75 58 911 or via mail to her husband, who is genaral manager of SSEC Church: jpwale (at) ssec.org.sb Or get in touch with Joyleen Maina, secretary at SSEC headquater, mobile 74 44 776 and jmaina (at) ssec.org.sb | 7
I haven't been to Serah's as I tend to go to were my friends live in the Lau Lagoon, on the other side of Malaita. It is a bit far for the weekend though. Serah's would be manageable. | 8
thanks to everyone for your help and advice - and junadidi thank you so much! been in touch with eve and steph and it looks like it will work out there - what a blessing! thanks for the contacts :) | 9
Hi, | 10 | |
Both St Agnes (Mothers Union) and Chester are newer than either SSEC or Uniting, and both now have the option of en suite rooms. Both on Vavaya Ridge, behind the main market (St Agnes) and Hot Bread shop (Chester) near Quality Motel (which I don't recommend). SSEC is further up the same ridge. | 11
