Solomon Islands Guide book

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hi- I'm heading to the Solomon Islands with my boyfriend in a couple of months and will be there for 6 months. I want to buy a guidebook- but the only one I can seem to find is the papua new guinea and solomon islands one. Was wondering if there are any other books out tehre with more detail specifically on the Solomon Islands?
Thanks:)

There aren't any. The best guides to the country were the first 3, Solomon Islands only, Lonely Planet guides.
Look for one in a library or second-hand bookshop. However, there were significant changes to the country in the period between 1998 and 2003, and information on Guadalcanal, in particular, before that period, can be quite misleading. Also, prices are vastly different.
Where in the country are you going? Will either of you be working? What sort of Visa will you have? (tourist visas only last 3 months, most resident Visas require employment, and last for 2 years).
Two useful websites are Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau and the wikispaces site in my sig line.
