Solomons Rainy Season (always gray and rainy or just some rain per day)

re: Solomons Weather
marcopereira just now
Hi, we are considering the possibility of visiting the Solomons during February but the Rainy Season is scaring us off. For what we have seen and read, it's mostly going to be grey and rainy most of the time until May and we even run the risk of having to face a serious cyclone.

We are not concerned about the heat and humidity, just the gray skies every time and
the rain..

Please, guys who know about the Solomons, be honest and tell us if this like we described or what it's really like.

Thanks in advance

Marco

I am presently in Honiara, arrived about 10 days ago.
Have been here about 20 times before always in January to April. At present there is few rain, but if there is a cyclon about 2000km away there is no wind, but plenty of rain.
It is off season in Solomon Islands and from February until Easter time, plane and ships are not so full. Solomon Airlines is offering already discounted prices for flights Brisbane to Honiara.
Dispite rainy season I would come here.
Regards from Honiara

I have lived in Solomon Islands for 5 years altogether, as well as visiting regularly at all times of the year. I spent a month there 12 months ago.
Generally, in the wet season, it rains heavily for a couple of hours in the afternoon, and the rest of the day is fine.
However, each side of each island has its own microclimate, and it can be sunny on one side of an island when it is wet on the other side. Except on the very damp weather coast of Guadalcanal (where you are unlikely to be going), it is generally not grey and damp for days at a time.

I haven't been in the Solomons that time of year ... yet ... but am about to return for 2 years. Suggest you don't get put off by weather reports, as you'll have a great time anyway. Dec-Feb is also the best time to see the leatherback turtles hatching at Tetepare - June-July are the wettest months there.
