Solomons resort has new owner

While really don't appreciate the name of this resort, I though others might be interested in the new owner of Fatboys near Gizo in Western Province. The article from Solomon Star is posted below.

FATBOYS Resort on Mbabanga Island near Gizo in the Western Province has a new owner.

He is Dan Kennedy from Australia.

Grant Griffiths, who is currently looking after the resort, confirmed this to Solomon Star yesterday.

“Yes, there now is a new owner. His name is Dan Kennedy - the brother of Shane Kennedy who owns the Gizo Hotel and King Solomon ,” Mr Griffiths said.

Mr Kennedy comes from Stradbroke Island off Brisbane , Queensland in Australia .

Mr Griffith said Mr Kennedy’s daughter and son-in-law will be coming up to take over management of the business.

The new owner has big plans for expansion and remodeling of Fatboys Resort but will still continue the quality food and service that Fatboys is renowned for, Mr Griffiths said.

Mr Griffiths sold the resort because he wants to move over to Honiara . This is to enable his children to attend good schools in town.

Fatboys opened in 2004. It was known for its popular restaurant and bar that were built over the coral reefs facing the beautiful Roviana Lagoon.

We just got back from Solomons and stayed at fatboys - all good and recommend checking it out.
Great location and snorkelling and swimming directly off fatboys pier was fantastic.
Not much to do as such - which is it's own bonus. Resort has restaurant, pool table, table tennis, snorkelling equipment, and kayaks. You can journey across to Kennedy Island or another island about the same distance.
Very friendly staff who are great to chat to. You can coordinate your trips with the staff boat (or charter yourself) into Gizo town if you want to go to the market etc.
