Travelling from Solomon Islands to Denpasar or Jakarta

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hello,

could anyone advise me what is the cheaper way to travel from Solomon island, is it trough PNG(Honiara-Port Moresby-Vanimo) then landcrossing to to Indonesia and taking a plane from Jayapura or flying from Honiara to Darwin or to any other Australian city and from there to indonesia?

Arto

The only Australian city you can fly to direct from Honiara is Brisbane. Fares can go as low as $200 - $250 Pacific Blue online (maybe also Solomon Airlines now).
There are all sorts of fares out of Brisbane to various parts of Aisa.
Compare this with unreliable travel and accommodation options, and the possibility of getting stuck somehwere.
Laszlo can give you more information on the overland routes.

The overland routes are worth it for the experience, but are very time-consuming and could easily cost more than flying.

If in doubt, fly!
Flying Virgin Blue from Honiara to Brisbane, then Air Asia from Gold Coast to Bali/Jakarta via Kuala Lumpur may be the cheapest way to go.

Travelled overland from Honiara to Jayapura this year and yes, it is exactly as Laszlo says..... If your aim is to get cheaply to Indonesia, fly.
Virgin Blue (Pacific Blue) also flies from Brisbane to Bali directly.
