United Church Guesthouse in Honiara: Decent budget place to stay?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Has anyone stayed at the United Church Guest House in Honiara? The price is right and it looks like it's close to the markets. Has anybody stayed there? Thumbs up or down?

Thanks in advance!

-Mike

Yes, it is very near the market, but I haven't stayed there. I am very familiar with the two newer, nearby, ones, run by the Church of Melanesia (Anglican) . They are up on the ridge, with good views, and cooler.
Chester House is run by the Melanesia n Brothers, and is cheaper. It has twin rooms with shared bathrooms and a communal kitchen.
St Agnes, up the road is run by the Mothers' Union, and has 2 or 3 beds per room, with en-suites, and a communal kitchen in each wing.
You can check them out (including prices) at Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau
although they are not very accurate about St Agnes.

My brother and I recently stayed at Chester Resthouse, which is right next to United Church Guesthouse. It was very convenient (3-minute walk from the main street) and the right price (200 SBD/night). Our bedroom had 2 twin-size beds, and the bathrooms were shared. They have a nice balcony with wicker chairs and a view of the harbor, next to a communal area with a kitchen, couch, dining table, and television. The Anglican brothers were very welcoming and we enjoyed chatting with them. I would definitely give Chester Resthouse a thumbs up.
