What to see in the Solomon Islands in 9 days!!!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands

Hey everyone, I am going to the SI for 9 days and I wanted to know what I should do/see and also where to stay. I've read that the Western province is touristy and better for diving but I would rather see culture and maybe do some hikes. Malaita seems to be the place? It sounds like I take a boat called the Discovery to Auki? Where would I go from here? Any suggestions would be great :)

360 Discovery travels daily to Auki, leaving Honiara wharf at 8 am, returning from Auki 2pm. You should book your ticket in advance.
There is a local guide in Auki called Silas, who lives in the village near the old service station on the road leading north. I like to go to the Lau Lagoon artificial Islands, but the road is really bad at the moment. The Langa Langa Lagoon is much closer to Auki, and Serah's provides accommodation there. In Auki, the best place I've stayed is the Rarasu motel, near the new market.
Ask a taxi driver to take you to the Arts Festival site near Auki, but don't swim in the lake. It is a crocodile haunt.
360 Discovery travels past the old pre-World War II capital, Tulagi, which is worth a visit.
There are also slower boats to and from Auki, always at 6 pm Friday. However, you miss the scenery on the night trip. There are some on other days as well.
