Hi Angela. I'm a Swedish woman 45+ and I spent last winter in Solomon Islands and I'll be back there this Dec-March. It's a wonderful country but not smooth to travel in, you have to arrange a lot of things by yourself and if you are not being able to share transport it could be expensive. One the other side it's genuine and unexploited. I stayed at Bulaia Lodge, which CAN BE RECOMMENDED. It's not the cleanest place, but the staff's friendliness and helpfulness is outstanding. I was the only foreigner, a great opportunity to get in contact with Solomon people. SI could be the cheapest country in the Pacific, but petrol and telephone are really expensive. I went to Malaita Island where I spent some wonderful time with Solomon people (Kwaio). Ask around at Bulaia. I also went to Gizo and Munda, both can be recommended, as well as the eco island Tetepare, but this was before the earth quake, now I don't know. It's easy to travel with plane, hydrofoil or cargo ship between these major islands, but around Christmas you may need to book a few days in advance. I can understand that you have a million of questions, but it's hard to tell all the answers here, you may mail to me ann.lindvall-at-papyrusbok.se There are roughly 10 Solomon dollars to one Euro, a dorm bed in Bulaia is 100, hydrofoil ticket Honiara - Gizo (12 hours) 380, a simple lunch is 8-10, a good dinner 50-60, a beer 12 and so on. There are excellent diving opportunities, but I don't know the costs. Wish you GOOD LUCK!! Ann

Hi, Angela,
The current exchange rate is about 6 Solomon dollars to 1 Australian dollar.

If you're into diving, I suggest Uepi in the Western Province. Supposed to be one of the best.

I am going over in march with a female companion, hope it s good as you say here.
