6 days in Tahiti - Best diving spot?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hi,

we will spend 6 days on a "technical stop2 between Easter Islands & Rarotonga on Tahiti. Not longer because we are on a RTW and budget is not that large.

But we want to enjoy the best divig of Tahiti during these 6 days. Where should we go? Is Ranrogira really the best?

Thank you in advance
Cheers

Just returned from the Tuamoyus- I was "unlucky" on Rangi, but LOVED Fakarava. While I saw different sharks on Rangi, there were not hundreds, (and no hammerheads so far this year)- on Fakarava I saw hundreds on the pass dives! I was also not so lucky with dolphins, rays and weather on Rangi and as you probably know the reef is not pretty. However the reef on Fakarava is beautiful and thousands of sharks in the pass-incredible dives!

Both places do 2 daily dives- one is always deep and in fast current, timed for best diving. Given the depth and dive times and undulkating profiles in the pass (bad option to have to surface in a 12kt current), best be prepared to dive nitrox or know the deco stop profiles if you dive repetitively

Hi,

Thanks a lot about your answer, it confirmes what I heard shortly. I will skip Rangiroa and spend 6 days on Fakarava.

We are not that experienced divers, whaooo, let´s see ...

I did the south pass at Fakarava as a snorkeler and had the same out of the world experience as hfl1 had. Its superb!
