6 weeks in Tahiti - suggestions on car rental and groceries, tickets to Heiva?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hi! We are going to be staying almost 6 weeks in Punaauia, Tahiti this summer. Our kids will be going to school there during June, then we'll check out the Heiva.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best place to rent an automatic compact car for such a long period? WIll we do much better than the car rental companies at the airport?

Does anyone have advice on what food we should bring from the US for such a long period with an eye to keeping down costs? We have extra bags so we can bring whatever we want for free. We're thinking about bringing peanut butter, for example.

Finally does anyone know if it's possible to buy tickets for the Heiva from afar or do we need to be there?

Thank you!!

I can’t help with car rentals or the Heiva, but groceries are easy to buy as there are supermarkets with a good variety of food all around the ring road on the island. Local markets provide fresh local fruit and vegetables at an excellent price. I wouldn’t bother carrying food!

A big jar of Peanut butter would probably be a good idea.
