A Better Idea.....Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia
Greetings! I am planning on spending a little over 2 weeks in French Polynesia next summer. (Summer 09). After arriving in Pape'ete, I would like to spend a few days on Bora Bora, Maupiti, then Moorea before heading home. It is my dream to spend at least 1-2 nights in an over water bungalow; however, I am the avid off track girl and doesn't mind spending the rest of my trip in less luxorious accomidations. As for the resorts go, I have googled Le meridan, intercontinel, and the sheraton. So, if you have stayed in one of those places please let me know what you thought. So here goes:
Thank you soo much! happy travels.
I was in an over the water bungalow at the Hotel Bora bora many years ago. Really fantastic. But I think an OTW would be a bit cheaper on Moorea, and be just as nice, although not as a spectacular a view. All depends on how much you want to spend on the splurge. There's a lot more to do on Moorea, so I'd spend more time there. also, a lot more accommodation choices. I guess I'd spend two nights on BOB and spend both in an OTW. Then go cheap on Moorea to offset that. | 1
Do check out the forums at Tahiti Explorer as well as Tripadvisor for the latest reviews on the resorts. I've always wanted to stay at the Moorea Sofitel which is on lovely Temae beach and has stunning views across the Sea of the Moon to the mountains of Tahiti. But if I had to chose it would be Bora Bora just so that I could take a resort kayak and explore along the fringing motus (islets). The Sofitel Motu has incredible snorkeling in the coral gardens as well as shuttle service to the Matira Point area where there are restaurants and beautiful Matira beach. The Le Meridian shuttle leaves you in the middle of nowhere, their giant turtles in the artificial lagoon are cool though. By Sheraton are you referring to the Moorea one? It has a lot of fans but it is too Sheratony for me (and crowded). | 2
