Hi there,

I am new in here and was just wondering if anyone stayed on Nuku Hiva recently? We will be there in October for 3 nights, any activity suggestions? How about whale watching?
At the moment me and my partner cannot decide where to stay, in Hatiheu or Taiohae. We would prefer staying in Hatiheu but how are the chances of taking tours from there? Is there anything on offer? Like a trip to the archeological sites, or can you easily be reached by foot? In case someone stayed in Hatiheu, which accommodation can you recommend? Are the pearl resorts on Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa still open? I read they don't offer accommodation anymore but you always see them advertised on different pages.
Did anyone go to see the big Vaipo waterfall? Worth it?

Thank you all for your help!!!! Very much appreciated :-)

Hi kaienana,

thank you very much for your reply to my questions. Unfortunately I just saw it right now... We went to Nuku Hiva 3 weeks ago and it was amazing. We had a very good time staying at Moana Nui. The island is incredible and so different to everything we have seen so far in the Pacific. We are actually quite happy that we decided to stay in Taiohae since we realized as we visited Hatiheu it might have been a bit to lonely even though it is a lovely spot of heaven.
We took a tour with Jocelyne from the airport to the east coast turning to Hatiheu visiting the archaelogical sites as well as the "Survivor site" and back to Taiohae. An incredible tour we will never forget. I can only recommend to everyone to go to Nuku Hiva and enjoy a holiday away from all the usual tourist and feeling like having the island almost to yourself.
