Bora Bora on a budget? Is that possible?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia
Hello fellow travelers, I am looking into a trip for my 15 year wedding anniv for next March (I know it's kind of early but I'm a planner), and I have looked at about 6 different air/hotel packages online, but can't find anything less than $2500 per person for a 5 night/6 day package! I read some posts on this subject earlier to get some ideas but since it's an anniverssary celebration, I don't want to stay in a shared room. The reason I want to do air/hotel is because air alone from Phoenix, AZ is around $1500 pp so it's worth it to do a pacakge & save. Has anyone taken a budget air/hotel package trip and can give me some advice/info? I'd like to keep it at $1600 to $1800 per person, and hopefully the hotel will include breakfast. We don't have to have a oceanview room or be right on the beach, but would like to be close to a grocery store or restaurants so we don't have to eat at the hotel the entire time. I appreciate and thank you all in advance for your help. Travel Away..................
There aren't really package "deals" like you can get for somewhere like Mexico. Most of the hotels that would potentially offer air/hotel packages are probably going to be well above your desired price range. Your only potential option is a small independent hotel/B&B/lodge and booking air separately. One of the cheapest and best reviewed places is Sunset Hill Lodge, and it might fit your budget. Personally, if I were in your shoes I'd go somewhere else in the South Pacific that is more budget-friendly (eg. Fiji) and save Bora Bora for a time when you can afford to splurge. | 1
Thank you for your suggestions, I'll look up that hotel or try Fiji. | 2

Or go to the island of Moorea......take the ferry over from Tahiti. Check for package deals there. there are a few hotels there with over water bungalow.....or you could find a nice bungalow hotel at the Hauru area of the island. Nice beach with fantastic sunsets and there is a small grocery store there and a few eating places. | 4
Thanks Marvel69...........I'll check out both websites | 5
Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to check it all out | 6
Years ago there was a small, cute, basic camping ground on Bora Bora near the bunched resort hotels. I dont know if its still there though. | 7
There seems to be a campsite on Bora Bora: http://boraboracamping.blogspot.nl/ or http://www.facebook.com/boraboracamping I myself stayed four nights in June 2010 at http://temanuata.com/en/home_en.htm | 8
