Buying Air Tahiti tickets

Hi, Does anyone know if there's a huge difference between buying Air Tahiti tickets (the domestic airline) online versus in Papeete? I have heard that it might be much cheaper in Papeete, but obviously it's more convenient to have it already organized online, as I only have a week. I' not looking for an air pass, just a flight to Huahine or Maupiti. Any recent experiences? Thanks very much.

A couple of years ago the overseas price for a RT ticket to Huahine was 21000 pacific francs and the local price was 18900. The prices on Air Tahiti (their overseas site, anyway) are now quoted in Euros.

Air Tahiti has cut a number of flights due to the economy. Someone over on Tahiti Explorer (http://www.tahiti-explorer.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm) said that they met some folks who were trying to get to Huahine on tickets puchased there and they had to wait all day before getting on a 6pm flight. Be aware that flights to Maupiti run only a couple of days a week. This topic was just discussed on TE.

the maupiti flight costs something like 300 euros return, you should definitely make a reservation before because this flights are often full !! As the maupiti flight has some stops in between, the seats are divided to the stops, so every location has its share of seats available.

Please be aware that the cheaper interisland airfare you MIGHT get in person after arriving in Tahiti is actually the "resident" rate, and you may wind up paying in person what you would have paid from home to reserve in advance if they realize you are not an FP resident. Also, the luggage weight allowance will decrease with the resident rate. While international travelers are allowed 20 kilos per person (44 pounds) of checked luggage, local residents are allowed only 10 kilos (22 pounds), and Air Tahiti charges an excess baggage fee for weight over the limits.
