| gumboots11:21 UTC10 Apr 2007 | Wahoo,
Just got a return flight from Wellington, NZ to Papette, 350 New Zealand dollars all up including taxes, off for 7 nights in August, looking forward to reading all your posts. Don't know anything about the place, but looking forward to finding out, sure it will beat a Winter week in windy Wellington

at first glance dosn't seem to be a backpacker destination, there are some camping places in moorea, but if you come across anything interesting let me know. would be looking for something laidback and handy for surfing or diving

| silvanocat20:43 UTC10 Apr 2007 | I don't think that anyone who has been to French Polynesia would consider Papeete a great getaway. It's a small busy city. There are no spas there, the Tahiti Sheraton may be in Papeete (it's on the edge of town) but it's used as a stopover hotel before and after flights to the outer islands. The other Tahiti resorts are not in Papeete and they are also stopover hotels. The shopping isn't excellent. It's the best in French Polynesia but nobody goes there for the shopping (watch out for souvenirs made in Bali at Tahiti prices).
#3 - The special was on Air New Zealand "grabaseat". It's on their NZ site.

| gumboots08:39 UTC11 Apr 2007 | Cheers guys,
Looking at camping on Bora Bora for a few nights. Was looking at arriving in Papette, flying straight out to BB for 5 nights and then back to Papette for the last 2, maybe day trip to Moorea also. This sound OK? Read on some posts that you can book the flight to BB in the airport and it is cheaper than booking in advance, but read somewhere else that these filghts are often full booked, any ideas on the best way go about this? Cheers again

| reef_pass09:59 UTC11 Apr 2007 | That sounds like a great Air Fare - who was it with and where did you book it through?
Aiming to get up there in June - sailing on Tallship Soren Larsen though the outer islands..
Thanks

| gumboots10:29 UTC11 Apr 2007 | Got it from Grab a seat that Air New Zealand have here, http://flightbookings.airnewzealand.co.nz/vgrabview/
They put on offers each morning, usually domestic, but occasionally international. These seats sold out in minutes yesterday from what I could see, good luck with the sailing

| silvanocat23:56 UTC11 Apr 2007 | In Bora Bora I would recommend staying in the Matira point/beach area. That way you can just walk out of your guesthouse and be in the most beautiful water or on the beach. Pauline Village and the Lagoonarium aren't on beaches. For budget accomodations I would consider Chez Rosine Masson - Pension Maeva, Chez Nono, Chez Robert et Tina because of location, location, location.
I would devote more than a day on Moorea. It's stunning (and you get far better value for your accomodation $ than on Tahiti.)
Air Tahiti airfares are less expensive purchased on Tahiti vs. overseas. I have written several posts on my blog about that. There are quite a few flights per day from PPT to BOB, you have the option of visiting Moorea or Tahiti first if there isn't a seat available. If you book ahead you have the advantage of making reservations at your lodgings.
For # 9 - This is my Tahiti on a Rockbottom Budget Series (click newer posts for the next entry).

| gumboots05:31 UTC12 Apr 2007 | Cheers all,
As fore mentioned, we are looking at camping as we are quite into it and obviously good value, are considering this place to pitch the tentplace, only 2000 a night for a tent and use of facilities. Any other places that mgith improve on this?
