Has anyone stayed at Club Bali Hai on Moorea? Very interested in any feedback on bungalows, activities, food, inter island transportation. We are planning a trip late September/ early August.
last time i was on Moorea it was rather run down. especially the bungalows. don't recall a proper beach. i liked the Haapiti area more than the Cooks Bay area. | 1
We did not stay at Club Bali Hai (we wish we had) but we did have a meal at their restaurant(The Blue Pineapple) and really enjoyed the food and the setting - it has awesome views. We also did a snorkel tour with them which was very nice - only a small group. We chatted with a couple of people staying there who had only complimentary things to say about their stay. Some of the accommodations are in timeshares which can be very different depending on the unit you get. Overall we thought it looked like a nice place to stay. You might want to check out the forums at www.tahiti-explorer.com - we found them to be very helpful when planning our trip in 2006. | 2
Thanks for your insight. I went ahead a booked a stay, the view alone should be worth it. The Haapiti looks like a great surfing area. Will check it out. | 3
We booked a pass as we were going Papeete -Huahine-Raiatea-Bora Bora-Moorea -Papeete (40th anniversary splurge trip for us) so it was a lot more economical. We looked at the ferry service for our trip but it was just not feasible for our schedule. I have a feeling your best choice is the return ferry to Moorea and the flight to Bora Bora. Again, the people at tahiti-explorer would have up to date info about the boats as there used to be a number of locals who would answer posts. Bora Bora is definitely worth the effort to get to - the colors in the lagoon are something I will never forget as well as our great lagoon tour with Roanui(sp?) Tours. Have a great trip! | 4
Thanks for the info, we're on our 38th! The pass is great but only have 10 days, want to make the mot of it. Will contact you. | 5
Club Bali Hai was excellent. I stayed there in October for a week. My room was in the bay view area, right behind the overwater bungalows. There are several markets within easy walking distance, the closest of which is the prettiest Mobil station you will ever see. It's key because most of the rooms have cooking facilities. The Blue Pineapple is open for breakfast and lunch. They only do dinner when there is a dance performance. When you get there, ask Muk where to go. He is one of the guys who opened the resort. Moorea is incredibly beautiful. Go ahead and rent a car for one day, so you can circle the island. The next day you should do the island safari, which is a tour from the back of a 4x4 pickup truck. They will take you places that a car can't go. The best of which is a viewpoint overlooking Cook's bay. The absolute best views are from the lagoon, facing the two bays. Do a motu picnic & stingray/sharkfeeding tour. I haven't been to Bora Bora, but the easiest way would be to fly back to Tahiti, and then fly to Bora Bora. Bring some extra cash with you. My flight arrived in the middle of the night and the only ATM at the airport wasn't working. There will be a money changing office open. If you have any questions or want to see pictures of the hotel, PM me and I'll send a link to my gallery. | 6
Will definitely do the tours, thanks for the insight. Is it better to book PPT-BOB-PPT in advance, through expedia or similar agent, or buy the ticket once we land in Pepeete? If so, how far ahead and how full are the flights? How long does it take from the ferry docks to Papeete airport? Our flight arrives early AM. Should I bring $US and are the money changing offices open 24/7? Would love to see Moorea photos. | 7
I bring a comination of cash and Travellers checks, 2 out of 3 trips I could not get the ATMs to work. Changing your $ at the airport is convenient and fast.Open 24/7. Banks are slow. I bought a airpass on arrival and booked my flights then. I had emailed different Pensions so had an idea of availability. Bora Bora is beautiful, but too crowded for me. | 8
