December visit to Mo'orea and Bora Bora

My wife and I are visiting French Polynesia in mid-December and have heard mixed comments about the weather. Any advice on what to expect in terms of rainfall, sunshine, limits on what to do around the islands?

When I was planning our Tahiti trip I used wunderground.com to check out the weather patterns for our time frame. The site lets you check out what the weather was like for your dates going back a number of years - it gives a breakdown on the weather throughout the day so you can see when it rained and for how long. While not a firm forecast, it will let you see what the historical data for your dates are and give you some idea of what you might expect weather wise! FP, even in the rain, will still be beautiful!

Hm, we're in Bora Bora at the moment and the weather has definitely changed for the worse compared with just last week in Raiatea and Taha'a. I checked out wundergound.com (great tip, newfie43!) and there are thunderstorms coming. That said, sometimes the bad weather burns off so we're hopeful. Let us know how you get on!

Our trip turned out to be excellent with only few showers between our stays in Mo'orea and Bora Bora. French Polynesia is certainly a place we will never forget. Looking forward to the next adventure.

My family visited Tahiti and Moorea over the Christmas holidays, and yes it does rain a lot, but for very short periods. On days when it didn't rain, it was overcast, but very warm. It was one of the best vacations we've ever had.
