Diving in FP

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hi, I'm planning to go to FP next september for diving. Can anyone recomend me the best dive sites? I would like to visit two islands.
Thx

Almost any of the atolls of the Tuamotus. The one I stayed on last-Fakarava-has 3 (I think) dive shops. Many of the smaller less populated atolls you would have to pack in everything. But the Calypso's crew routinely says the Tuamotus have the best diving in the world.

Other than that the rest of the islands will have reef to deep wall diving.

Rangiroa has spectacular shark diving; it will help if you're experienced with strong currents.

3, thats my point, with very rare exceptions ALL of the atolls in the Tuamotus-not just Rangiroa, which is merely the largest of them-have awesome unreal diving and snorkelling with the tides. You go out in the ocean and wait for the current to rip you into the lagoon. Utterly awesome. You are part of what appears to be a vast migration of critters large and small, nearly always including several shark and ray species and just about anything else in the Pacific that has fins. It really is a once in a lifetime thing.

The pass at tikehau is very nice and the manta rays (manta club dive center) was awesome. This is more fish than corral
