Driving Around Tahiti

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

I have searched the forum with no results found regarding driving a rental car round Tahiti.

We are there for about 24 hours 5-6 October (on a Trans-Pacific cruise) and have rented a car, with a view to circumnavigating the island starting in Papeete.

We are interested in scenic coastlines, beaches to laze at and possibly swim at, but don't require diving or snorkelling, and also like botanic gardens and other nature parks.

We will probably get to Tautira Beach, but do those with experience wish to offer their favourite places to head for, and to stop at? Are there any attractive (and definitely sealed) roads that head inland from the coast, that people would also like to recommend?

We will leave fairly early from the port, but don't need to be back in Papeete before about 8:00 pm.

Junglejurd, any relation to Jurds Jungle Juice, dont know anything about Tahiti, but can give you good tips for Fiji

Yes - I am a First Fleeter and also a direct descendant of Daniel Jurd, who in the 1820s established a very large family dynasty, many based in the Wollembi / Hunter Valley region, and including those who developed Dr Jurd's Jungle Juice ... presumably sly grog in its day.

Well, you need to learn to spell Wollombi, and the Jungle Juice only started late 1950's, the
first person to make it is my relative as well. At least I haven't changed my name ever on TT

You can be rather critical and picky, I've noticed. It's not necessary ... we're all human, and can make typos and other mistakes. Sheesh.

4

Hi,
I will be there this day too.
I tell you if you want to rent a car together ;)
