First time tavelers to South Pacific

Beginning to plan a two week trip toTahiti and other islands. Looking for ideas on islands to visit and places to stay. Have been reading Lonely Planet's South Pacific. Interests are history, locals and customs, enviornment and snorkeling. Would appreciate any suggestions. Have been reviewing what Air Tahiti has to offer for extensions and passes.
