Flight Tahiti to Bora Bora

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hello, me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to Tahiti at the end of September 2016 and I would like to ask about the flights to Bora Bora or other islands. My friends who visited Bora Bora two years ago told me that it is possible to buy air tickets from Tahiti to Bora Bora at Papeete airport. That we do not have to buy them now. The reason why I am asking is obvious, the air tickets at Air Tahiti cost around 500 AUD, but my friends bought them at Airport Papeete for 200 AUD. I would like to just ask if you have the similar experience or should I be worried that it will be too late? My friends told me that Air Tahiti saves around 30% of flight seats for locals, so it might look like on web that everything is booked, when it is not. Thank you for any help or advice.

I think it's because you're going through the AU website. I tried going to the main site and came up with a round trip to Bora Bora for 359 euro....
this is the site I used, and I used September

Try it out...good luck. I used to fly them LAX to Paris...my favorite carrier for that route.

AUD500 is way off the mark, the flight consolidators are offering this flight right now at around $200 (AUD300) and I'm sure you can get cheaper with some research.

Wife and I have been to FP a number of times and will be back again in 2016. The flights from Tahiti to Bora Bora sell out so I wouldn't wait until you get there. I've seen many standbys disappointed. The locals get a discount, but tourists don't.

I was in FP in August (2015) and due to a sudden change in plans was forced to book tickets in Papeete town (not the airport). It seemed a lot of the flights were full and we weren't trying to go to Bora Bora which is obviously the most popular. It is one of the most frustrating things that inter-island airfares are SO expensive.
One thing that might be useful if you are considering going somewhere other than Bora Bora would be a multi-island pass. We only discovered them after out trip but they seem like a bargain.
The Bora Bora Pass is around 600AUD in high season and allows you to fly to Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Maupiti. Or the Discovery Pass which costs around 440AUD in high season allows you to fly to Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea (if you considered changing your plans).
Look at the website: https://www.airtahiti.com/multiisland-fares

Also, considering the weight restrictions on the small planes, taking light/small bags will reduce your airfares by a huge amount.
