Flights / Deals to Tahiti

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hi All,
My fiancé and I are thinking of going to French Polynesia (Bora Bora, Morea, ??? – we will figure that out soon) for our honeymoon in early May 2011. I have seen a lot of great deals for flights to Tahiti and hotels on the islands over the years. I see a lot of discounts now, but they are mostly for travel in Oct –Dec 2010. We are going to be flying out of LAX and it looks like flights are about $1500 pp for coach now.

I am wondering if anyone had any advice on:
• Is it likely that big discounts will emerge for travel to in May?

• Would it make sense to hold out on purchasing flights? Would it be likely that flights would be more discounted for May travel later or will they only go up?
Any thought would be most appreciated.
Hope everyone is doing well - cheers,
Mark

You might get a better response to your question on the forum at www.tahiti-explorer.com or even tripadvisor. Some of the posters there are frequent visitors to FP and should know more about which airlines offer discounts and when!

You might sign up for Air Tahiti's facebook page. My daughter has this and gets "specials" all the time from the airline. You could also try www.kayak.com. There is not much competition for flights out there so the fares remain almost constant. Have you thought about a cruise?

My husband and I also went in May and I didn't find many discounts...but if you check out the hotels sites directly you might luck out!

I'd wait and see. Flight deals pop up all the time. I think my hubby and I each paid less than $1500 and we flew from LAX to South Island NZ, from Auckland to Tahiti, and from Tahiti back to LAX. And about a month before we left for NZ, Air New Zealand ran a special from $750 roundtrip to NZ. Our wedding guest benefited greatly from that.

So yes, sign up on their web site for specials and deals. From my experience buying flight tickets, you never do save very much buying them in advance.
