FP Itinerary / easytahiti.com

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

I am planning my honeymoon to FP & I'm really stuck on what to do about the itinerary. I'm a bit concerned we're hopping around too much & should maybe cut out Raiatea & stay an extra night at a couple of hotels we're already staying at instead. However, we're not likely to get back to FP & want to see as much as possible. We're also fairly active & wouldn't want to spend all our time lazing around.

the latest itinerary we're looking at is for 19 nights:
- 1 night at the Sofitel Tahiti upon arrival
- 2 nights in Te Pari Village, Teahupoo (last two days of Billabong Pro)
- 2 nights west coast Tahiti at the Relais Fenua
- 3 nights at the Intercontinental + 2 nights at the Bali Hai in Moorea
- 2 nights in Raiatea Lodge Hotel
- 3 nights in Bora Bora Intercontinental Le Moana
- 4 nights in Novotel Rangiroa Lagoon Resort

Also, we are planning to book with easytahiti.com. Has anyone had any experience or have any knowledge about this online agent (based in Tahiti) that might be helpful to me?

Sounds like way too much packing up, unpacking, etc. etc. Why not stay at one place on Tahiti and just take day trips from there? It's not that big of an island, you can get most anywhere easily on a day tour, or in a rental car---or via Le Truck.

With 17 days, I'd say three or four places at most, otherwise you'll waste a lot of time in transit/packing up/unpacking, and won't have time to slow down to the pace of the islands, which is a main reason for going there for most people.

Thanks for your reply Raro.

The trip is for 19nights/20 days but I know its still probably too much packing/unpacking etc. Its just hard to know where to go & what to see because no-one we know has been there & can offer any advice!

We definitely wouldn't want to spend heaps of time lounging around at the resorts - maybe a little but we like to get out & do stuff & see all the scenery. We like snorkelling, kayaking & would like to do some walking/hikes to explore.

In Tahiti, we've got a couple of nights at Teahupoo for the surfing & thought it would probably be easier to stay near this. Then we go around to the west coast so we can stay near where there is easy surf for beginners & maybe get a lesson. If we stay in the one spot & hire a car then that would be an extra cost on top of the accom. I don't know where & how often Le Truck travels, so its hard for me to plan the trip taking that into consideration.

Do you know much about the islands? I'm not sure whether we should leave Raiatea out.

We faced a similar choice when we went to Tahiti for a 40th anniversary trip. We ended up going to Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti in the space of 2 weeks. As Raro says, lots of packing and unpacking but, other than Bora Bora, really didn't spend too much time hanging around airports and the flights are fairly short, although getting to and from Rangrioa may be more time consuming. We are really glad we chose to see more islands as we found each had it's own special magic for us and we also felt we might never get the chance to get back again. If you check out www.tahiti-explorer.com you can ask your question of the forum there - they have an active, helpful group. Good luck with your planning - any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Its doable depending on you. Teahupoo was a great place. We stayed at Au Bonjouir which required an hour or so long shoreline hike or a boat ride. Did it several times both ways and loved the hike! If you really like to hike you could take a boat out to the last dock on Tahiti-iti, then hike the Te Pari (cliffs) trail. Breathtaking, and totally alone. Le Truc works ok in town-we took it to the Sofitel for instance-but it doesn't run in the evenings and service outside of Papeete is spotty.

As to all those islands, I would prefer fewer, but that is ONLY my opinion. There is a LOT to what #3 says about the beautiful differences, too. I'd suggest at least one of the Societies (which you have several of, my faves were Taha'a and Maupiti) one of the Tuamotus (especially since its the best snorkeling I've ever seen even though I live in Hawaii) and at least one of the Marquesas. I wanted to get to the Gambiers, but decided on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) from Papeete instead.

Its all beautiful and you guys should enjoy it as long as you aren't big city only type people. Thats the one thing FP isn't! Een Papeete.

Well, this is a tough one. Very few stay any more time on the "Big Island" then necessary.

It's like staying on the Hawaii Island with Honolulu. Mc Donalds, KFC, etc. Major port city Pepete, etc.

The big island is just not Tahiti any more. All other islands are like night and day compared. You will love this place but be disappointed on the way home if you spend more than one overnight on the big island!!!!

Been to this place over 34 times and obviously love it...............Bora Bora if my fav followed by Moorea.

Thanks all for your advice :)

It was such a dilemma but we just decided to book it & make sure we enjoy it! I'm so happy now its booked & can't wait to go!

Thanks Ed for the info on Teahupoo. I will remember the hike - it sounds fantastic. I would've liked to see one of the Marquesas but I think it would've added too much to the cost of the trip for us.

I wish I could go to every island & experience them all. Maybe one day... sigh! :)
