French Polynesia for 2-4 weeks in July 2015

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Hello. I'm hoping I could get some advice on staying somewhere in French Polynesia for anywhere from 2-4 weeks in July next year.

I realise that sounds quite vague but we have decided it would be a great stop during out 6 month sabbatical with our 2 year old. We will be flying out of LA then onto NZ as that seems to be the best direct flights.

Basically I know nothing

Is it safe?
Is it suitable for a 2 year old?
I know that July is a good time for weather but bad as may be busy however that timing fits into our travel schedule.
Is it easy to buy basics for food/medical care/ kids stuff ?
And lastly some advice on where to stay? Somewhere that isn't too resorty but has the essentials close by to be safe to be with a child.

We love natural Beauty, mixing with locals, good food and understanding culture but of course safety and health foremost with. 2 y/o.

Any advice really appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.
