| seatuner18:00 UTC13 Apr 2007 | Hi - I'm leaving around May 1st to sail from So. California to the South Pacific. Our first landfall will be the Gambier Islands, which are east and a bit south of the Society Island group (Tahiti, Moorea, etc.). It is a relatively remote group of islands, within a protective atoll and, from what research I've been able to do thus far, is still today what Tahiti was like 50 years ago. I'm goiing on a very well-found, proven boat with good friends - all of whom have extensive sailing experience. I'd love to hear from anyone who has visited these islands by boat, or otherwise, within the past couple years.
Thanks very much - J.B.

Leaving this week for NZ then Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomons and PNG for the season. Have you tried asking on the real sailing forums like Cruiser Log, 7knots....?
A couple of tips: take a few good books. Pack some secret sweet treats to hide away and share, nothing beats a surprise; take a few 'nonsense' items - funny card game game, 'Happy Birthday' banner, party CD. Don't forget a big bottle of sunscreen and a protective sun-shirt for when snorkelling, wear a HAT, caps just don't give enough protection. If there's space on board, I always take a bag of clothes to give away on remote islands too. Oh! Just read your profile so you know all this stuff.....
Enjoy.........
