Heiva Tahiti festival

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

We will be there for the first weekend in July and there are usually dance competitions during this time. Is there a schedule up anywhere? And can we buy the tickets in advance, I am worried they might be sold out.

I got a ton of hits-which I didn't go through-by typing "heiva tahiti 2007" into Google. You should be able to find what you want. Remember though, its Tahiti and a lot of the sites will be in French. Often there is a "shadow site" in english.

Last year the schedule didn't come out until the end of May/beginning of June. I know a lot of folks over on Tahiti Explorer are looking for it too.

2

I'm not sure about dance schedules, but in case you're interested, the Vaka Heiva outrigger paddling comp will be held Sat 29 June and Sun 30 June in Papeete. It should be an awesome spectacle. My son is in one of the Cook Island teams travelling over for the festival and is currently counting the minutes!

3

Correction, sorry. The above days should have been Fri 29th and Sat 30 June

4

So far, I can only fnd a detailed schedule for 2006. I posted on Tahiti Explorer too because there are a few people over there who live in Tahiti and I was hoping they might hear something via the news.

Jeaniej, my husband is a Cook Islander. Do you live there? We live in Brisbane.

5

Tiki, yes we are papaas (Australians) currently living on Rarotonga. We've been here since late '05 and absolutely love it. Our home in Australia is just near Byron Bay, so we are practically neighbours ;-)

6

I just returned from Tahiti this past week, and the Heiva 2007 program is not yet available. They expect it to be out around the end of May, beginning of June.

7

I've been googling for it and nothing yet. It's so frustrating when you are coming from so far away for a special event.

The Heiva was wonderful!! It was easy to get tickets but the last night when we were supposed to see Toa Reva, one of the top groups, it was almost sold out and we bought seats at the back. Then it got rained out and we were leaving the next day and had to stand at the ticket booth hawking them to walk up buyers. Luckily we onsold them for face value so didn't lose any money but we didn't get to see Toa Reva!!

Advance tickets are sold in town at Oddessey near the Cathedral.
