honeymoon destination

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tahiti & French Polynesia

Where in Tahiti and French Polynesia is a must for a honeymoon. I am looking for jaw dropping white sandy beaches...absolutley NO tacky hotels/resorts...I am looking for a place to remember, relax and chill out. If someone can suggest a must see part to Tahiti and her islands that offers amazing beaches and chilled out atmosphere then let me know. Budget wise - we can treat ourselves as it's a honeymoon but to be honest would be equally happy woith a hut on a beach...can't shake my backpacking days!

White, sandy beaches in Fr. Polyneisa usually attract tacy resorts and hotels, at least on the main tourist islands. You'll have to try a more remote (but still easily accessible) island, maybe like Maupiti. I haven't been there, but from what I read it might be what you want.

If you are seeking white sandy beaches then French Polynesia isn't for you. The water and scenery are incredible but there is very little sand (maybe I'm spoiled by half mile wide American beaches but I don't quite see the attraction of sand). Some resorts bring in sand, elsewhere your beach will be a little sliver of sand and mostly crushed coral. You will need reef shoes.

I've posted some links in the FAQ to a couple of sites where you can look at the accomodations available.

Resorts aren't for everyone but I do want to note that the resorts of FP are generally very, very nice.

emok,

What do you want with sand when you can have an overwater bungalow? :-)

The resorts in FP are only one story high; they have so many flowering bushes, palm trees and other cool vegetation that they are beautiful.
